The Miyano Family consists of 4 members,

Miyano Atsushi, Miyano Elena, Miyano Akemi, and Miyano Shiho.

Atsushi joined a Shirohato Pharmaceuticals' drug development program. After the company went bankrupt, he and Elena opened a small clinic of their own while Akemi was five.

After Shiho was born, her parents died of a fire which destroyed the lab and the immortal drug research data.

Shiho was raised by Akemi then studied abroad in the USA. Akemi stayed in Japan because she couldn't leave. Later on after Shinichi was shrunken, the Black Organization killed Akemi, which made Shiho depressed. Taking the drug that her parents made, thinking that she would suicide.

A "miracle" happened, just like Shinichi, she shrunk and turned into her younger self. Remembering how to get to Kudo's house ( Death confirm check), she ran to his house and was found by Professor Agasa. They came up with a name: Haibara Ai.

It's confirmed by Gosho that she knows the identity of the BO's boss, but since that was at least a hundred years ago, no one knows who the boss is disguised in the present timeline.
